Final 3 days in the MTC

Well guys, Justin’s time at the MTC is wrapping up and he is leaving for Mexico on Monday.  Yesterday, I had heard that a group of missionaries (including Justin) were going to be at the Mexican Consulate to get their papers signed and so, taking a chance, I went there to see if I could catch Justin. Sure enough, I did, and the shocked look on his face was priceless when he saw me. We were able to visit for about an hour and we laughed and shared and completely enjoyed the time. What a treat it was.  He looks great and is very happy. He’s soooooo anxious to get on that plane and get to Monterrey where he can begin the real work.
If you haven’t had the chance, I urge you to write to him. He said that he gets regular letters from family but that he hasn’t heard much from his friends.  However, he did tell me to thank everyone for the letters that have been written, the thoughts and prayers that have been sent on his behalf, and the great Christmas packages that he received.
This last letter is short and sweet, but as he wraps up his time in Provo, he is certainly getting busy getting prepared, so we’ll cut him some slack.
And with that, enjoy the letter, get to work doing good things for others, and enjoy love and peace.

Hey Familia y Amigos! How are you all? I'm doing fantastic! I'm finally going to Salt lake today to the Mexican Consulate to get my Visa! So I am on time to leave on Monday to Monterrey, Mexico to start the real work! I'm so excited to start the real work and get things rolling! Time does fly, but it has only been 2 months since I've arrived here and it seriously feels like I've been here for a long time! I feel like I've been here for years! haha It's crazy to see new elders/sisters come in all scared and they are the same age or older but I feel so much older than them. So I am about to graduate from the MTC and go into the mission field!
So I actually get to escape the MTC for a couple hours and go out into earth once again! It is so crazy to see cars drive by on our temple walks and then I think if I was to hop into a car and drive, I would be terrible right now! haha And all our teachers are very cool and fun to be with. I will miss them because they are so helpful. And I evaluated my teaching skills now compared to when I came in and I have improved so much. And it will be crazy to see myself in 2 years.
This week we were priveledged to hear from Elder Nelson once again and he did a good job in his talk. I know I have a lot of homework to do because he was talking about a lot of doctrine that I do not know much about, but his spirit that he brought with him was great!
So  the grand total amount of companions that I now have had so far is 6. My companion is leaving tomorrow for a temporary reassignment to Tempe Arizona.  So now I have to switch into a companionship in our district and be in a trio once again for 3 days. The good thing is that I am almost entirely packed and can just move with no problem! I’m going to miss just having a whole room to ourselves because it was sooo nice to have a whole desk to myself! And 2 closets! But it’s OK because it’s only 3 more days. It’s been pretty sad sometimes to see Elders take off because of the friendships you build here on the mission.  There are many great people here and my address book is filling up already with their info. I just hope that they all have great missions and I have to add them on Facebook when I get home.
Well I leave at 1:30 for Salt Lake and I have a lot to do today to get ready for my departure. So I will close but I love you all and I thank you all for supporting me! Remember to keep serving and loving anyone you come in contact with! You never know whose day you will make just being loving to that person. That is what we’ve learned here is to talk to everyone because you never know what they need in their life, you never know what they are going through and you may be the help that they needed and prayed for.  So always look outward to helping others and not only to yourself. Be like Christ.  I have the most amazing family/friends anyone can ask for and I wouldn’t be me right now if it wasn’t for all of you! I love you all and be safe and take care of each other.
Love,
Elder Powell
P.S. If you have a letter/package to send, send it ASAP to the MTC address or else I won’t receive it at all.  Or use dearelder.com to send me a letter. After Monday, use dearelder.com to ensure that the letter gets to me safely. It’s the easiest way and it’s free. If you do use a private mailing service, you run the risk of the letter getting lost/stolen if it is going to Mexico so be wise and careful. The church mail service is probably the best way to go.  Thanks and God bless!
